Information Regarding COVID-19: Vaccinations

  1. Your city hall or town hall will send you an envelope. In this envelope, you will find a notification letter, a prevaccination screening questionnaire, and a vaccination ticket.
  2. Make a reservation by phone, etc. If you have difficulty making a reservation in Japanese, please call the COVID-19 Vaccination Appointment and Interpretation Hotline(コロナワクチン予約・接種電話通訳サービス) at 092-687-5006. Using this service, you can make a reservation in languages other than Japanese.
  3. Go to the vaccination site and get vaccinated.

 

A: Basic Information on Vaccination against COVID-19
▶ Vaccination is provided free of charge.
▶ Anyone who is a registered resident of a Japanese municipality is eligible.
▶ Vaccination is not mandatory.
▶ If you wish to be vaccinated, you must make a reservation.
▶ The date from which you can be vaccinated depends on the city or town in which you live, your age, etc.

▶ There are two types of vaccination sites.
 ① Group vaccination: conducted at large facilities such as public halls and health centers.
 ② Individual vaccination: conducted at hospitals.
 Which type of vaccination site you will go to depends on the municipality you live in.

▶ As of November 2022, the vaccines that are available are from Pfizer, Moderna and Takeda (Novavax).

A-2:Regarding Booster Shots (3rd Dose and after)

  • Booster shots (3rd Dose and after) are available in Japan.
  • Anyone who is aged 5 years or older and a certain period of time has elapsed since their last vaccination is eligible.

*Pfizer, Moderna   :More than 3 months
*Takeda (Novavax):More than 6 months

  • You may get your third dose from a pharmaceutical manufacturer that differs from your primary vaccination (1st and 2nd Dose). 
  • Booster shots are either the Omicron strain-compatible bivalent vaccine from Pfizer and Moderna or the monovalent vaccine from Takeda (Novavax).
  • Booster shots will be stopped from May 7, 2023. After that, healthy people aged 12 to 64 will be able to receive booster shots from September 2023.

A-3:Regarding Vaccine for Children (Aged 5 to 11 years old)

  • Children aged 5 to 11 years old can now be vaccinated as well.
  • Children who have been vaccinated more than 3 months after the primary vaccination (1st and 2nd Dose) may also receive a booster shot (3rd Dose).
  • The vaccine to be used is the Pfizer vaccine approved for children aged 5 to 11 years old.

A-4:Regarding Vaccine for Infants and toddlers (Aged 6 months to 4 years old)
  • Infants and toddlers aged 6 months to 4 years old can now be vaccinated as well.
  • There are 3 doses for 1 set of vaccination.
  • The vaccine to be used is the Pfizer vaccine approved for infants and toddlers aged 6 months to 4 years old.

A-5:Procedures for Vaccination 

▶ Documents to be sent to your address ( “Vaccination Voucher” etc.)

You will receive the documents for the vaccination from your local municipality, which  includes the Vaccination Ticket, Prevaccination Screening Questionnaire, Certificate of Vaccination, explanatory documents, etc. For the booster shots, the Vaccination Ticket, Prevaccination Screening Questionnaire, and Certificate of Vaccination documents may differ from the 1st and 2nd doses or may even be combined into a single document. (For example, the Vaccination Ticket may be attached to the Prevaccination Screening Questionnaire, or the Vaccination Ticket and Certificate of Vaccination may be printed on the same  document, etc.)

▶ Regarding the reservation

Reservations can be made only after you receive your “Vaccination Ticket”.

The reservation method may differ from the 1st and 2nd doses. Please check your city’s or town’s website or contact your municipality. If it’s difficult for you, please contact the Center for Multicultural Society in Saga

 

▶ Notes

If you moved to a different city or town after receiving your 1st and 2nd doses, you will not be automatically receive booster shots documents. You will need to contact your new local municipality yourself. If it’s difficult for you, please contact Center for Multicultural Society in Saga
